SLS 3D Printing Services for Functional Nylon Parts

PartsMake produces durable, functional nylon components with Selective Laser Sintering. Build complex internal structures, undercuts, and intricate features without support structures—from one-off prototypes to production runs of 10,000+ parts.

Why SLS

Build the geometry your product actually needs

SLS surrounds each part with unsintered powder, eliminating the need for support structures. This opens up design options that are difficult or impossible with CNC machining, injection molding, or supported additive processes.

Discuss your design
01

Complex internal structures

Produce internal channels, hollow forms, lattice features, and interlocking assemblies without support removal inside the part.

02

Functional nylon performance

Select materials for durability, ductility, impact resistance, stiffness, and thermal stability across demanding end-use environments.

03

From prototype to production

Move from a single functional prototype to small-batch production and projects exceeding 10,000 pieces.

04

Production-ready workflow

Engineering review covers wall thickness, nesting density, tolerance stack-up, finishing, and production lead time before release.

Material selection

Choose the nylon for the job

Material selection should reflect the loads, flexibility, appearance, and operating conditions of your part.

PA12 profile

The dependable all-rounder

PA12 is the industry standard for durable functional prototypes and end-use components. It offers a strong balance of mechanical performance, chemical resistance, dimensional stability, and production flexibility.

Production parameters for engineering decisions

Our SLS process is optimized for dimensional accuracy, mechanical strength, and efficient production. Final values depend on geometry, orientation, material, and post-processing.

Parameter PA12 PA11 Glass-Filled Nylon Process capability
Mechanical profile Balanced strength and chemical resistance High ductility and impact resistance Higher stiffness and thermal stability Material selection reviewed by engineering
Typical layer height Material- and geometry-dependent 0.016–0.30 mm
Dimensional tolerance Geometry, size, orientation, and finishing dependent ±0.2% minimum ±0.2 mm
Minimum feature size Subject to feature orientation and local wall conditions 0.3–0.5 mm
Recommended wall thickness Validated during DFM review according to part size and load case Project-specific guidance
Maximum build size 700 × 380 × 580 mm
Production volume 1–10,000+ pieces
Typical lead time 1–5 working days

Cost logic

Make small-batch production more efficient

SLS economics improve when the available powder bed is used efficiently. Our nesting software packs compatible parts throughout the build volume, helping distribute machine time and reduce the cost per part.

01

Nest in 3D

Stack and arrange parts to maximize usable build volume.

02

Spread machine cost

Use one efficient build to serve multiple parts or assemblies.

03

Scale with confidence

Bridge the gap between prototypes and small-to-medium production.

A practical fit for batches of 10 to 10,000+ parts

SLS is particularly effective when part complexity, production quantity, and tooling avoidance matter more than the lowest possible unit cost at very high volumes.

Surface and finishing

From powder-bed texture to finished component

Fresh SLS parts have a naturally matte, slightly porous surface. Choose secondary processing to improve appearance, cleanability, wear behavior, color, or assembly performance.

Bead blasting

Standard finishing process that removes excess powder and creates a uniform, smooth matte texture.

Vapor smoothing

Seals the surface, reduces porosity, and improves cleanability for medical or consumer-facing components.

Dyeing

Adds permanent coloration for branding, visual identification, or functional coding.

CNC machining

Machines critical interfaces or taps threads where extreme precision is required.

Thread inserts

Installs metal inserts for robust, repeatable connections in nylon housings.
