Precision cylindrical component manufacturing

Precision Centerless Grinding Services

Centerless grinding delivers high-speed, repeatable production for cylindrical components where tight dimensional control, consistent geometry, and efficient throughput are critical.

PartsMake supports continuous processing of shafts, pins, rollers, guide rods, needle rollers, and other high-volume cylindrical parts for automotive, aerospace, medical device, and industrial applications.

Technical capabilities

Built for demanding cylindrical components

Unlike traditional cylindrical grinding, centerless grinding uses a regulating wheel to control rotation and feed rate without holding the workpiece between centers. This enables rapid, continuous production with fewer setup interruptions.

Suitable materials

Steel, stainless steel, tool steel, hardened steel, and other alloys can be reviewed against the print, hardness requirement, and surface-finish target.

Centerless grinding specification range

Diameter range Reviewed per drawing, component geometry, and process plan
Component length Short, long, and continuous cylindrical parts evaluated for feed method
Grinding tolerance Down to ±0.002 mm
Roundness Controlled and verified to the engineering drawing requirement
Surface finish Down to Ra 0.2 μm
Batch capability High-volume production runs with repeatable process control
Component types Shafts, pins, bushings, rollers, guide rods, and needle rollers

Select the right process

Through-feed or in-feed grinding

Our engineers match the grinding method to the part profile, length, diameter transitions, volume, and inspection requirements.

01

Through-feed grinding

Ideal for long, straight cylindrical parts such as shafts, guide pins, and rod-like components. The workpiece passes continuously through the grinding zone between the grinding wheel and regulating wheel.

Best fit: continuous production and consistent-diameter parts

02

In-feed grinding

Used for parts with shoulders, heads, multiple diameters, or tapered sections. The component is positioned against a fixed stop so specific profiles can be ground accurately.

Best fit: stepped parts and localized grinding profiles

Production assurance

Consistency across every batch

Continuous processing minimizes setup adjustments and supports repeatable dimensional performance from the first component through the full production run.

01

Diameter screening

Automated or manual sorting separates components into precise tolerance bands.

02

In-process monitoring

Wheel wear and thermal expansion are checked to protect process stability.

03

Automated inspection

Digital gauges and optical systems verify diameter and roundness across the batch.

Integrated manufacturing

A start-to-finish production workflow

Centerless grinding can be combined with broader manufacturing operations to deliver finished components through a coordinated process.

  1. 01

    CNC machining

Initial roughing, turning, and profile milling.

  2. 02

    Heat treatment

Achieving the required material hardness and performance.

  3. 03

    Precision grinding

Finalizing diameters, roundness, and surface finishes.

  4. 04

    EDM services

Adding narrow slots, fine internal features, or complex cavities.

Quality control

Inspection backed by documentation

Every component is verified against its engineering drawing through structured dimensional and surface analysis.

  • CMM: 700 × 1000 × 600 mm range with 2–3 μm accuracy
  • Surface roughness testers: Ra / Rz measurement with 0.01 μm resolution
  • Hardness testers: HRC / HRB / HB industrial inspection grade
  • Precision gauging: Pin gauges from Ø0.5–20 mm and calibrated micrometers
