Material selection
Choose the copper grade around the job
Copper delivers exceptional conductivity and heat transfer, but its ductility can make machining difficult. The right grade balances electrical performance, thermal behavior, hardness, strength, and chip control.
Engineering guidance
C101 and C110 maximize conductivity. C145 introduces tellurium for improved chip breaking and more predictable CNC milling and turning.
| Grade | Conductivity | Thermal conductivity | Hardness / strength | Machinability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| C101 (OFHC) | 101% IACS | Very high | Soft / moderate | Moderate |
| C110 (ETP) | 100% IACS | High | Soft / moderate | Moderate |
| C145 (Tellurium) | 90% IACS | High | Moderate / improved | Excellent |
Final properties depend on temper, geometry, and supplier condition. Confirm the required grade and certification at RFQ stage.
Process control
Controlling the difficult parts of copper machining
High ductility and rapid heat transfer can create gummy chips, burrs, clamping marks, and dimensional drift. Our tooling and workholding strategy is designed around those failure modes.
Burr control
Sharp-edged tooling with polished flutes shears copper cleanly instead of tearing or smearing it, protecting terminal edges and electrical contact points.
Deformation prevention
Custom soft-jaws and vacuum workholding reduce clamping marks and distortion during high-speed machining of soft copper components.
Thermal stability
High-pressure coolant evacuates chips quickly, manages heat at the cutting zone, and supports stable dimensions and surface finish.
Manufacturing platform
From small electrical contacts to large cold plates
A connected CNC machining and fabrication workflow supports prototypes, pilot runs, and repeat production without changing suppliers.
CNC milling
3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining for cold plates, housings, mounting brackets, and intricate thermal geometries.
